Based on Camberwell Church Street, beneath St Gilles' Church, the Crypt has been open as a jazz club for 14 years. Towards the end of 2008, we decided to start Soul Food, a more contemporary fusion jazz event every month. We specialise in exhibiting young and up and coming jazz influenced live music and DJ's. Our guests over the last 6 months have included;

United Vibrations, Tagara, Big Sur, D&E, The Illersapiens, Buddha Tears and of course the House Band who's theme changes every month, variating their styles, with guest musicians to co-inside with the guest band in the most exciting way possible.

We serve fresh home-made food on the night along with the very reasonably priced drinks at the bar and provide a platform for any talent that wants to be heard at the jam session. From Poets, MC's, Musicians to DJ's come down for the Soul Food experience.

May 14th @ The crypt.

Featuring Guest band D&E a new broken beat 7 piece directed and composed by drummer Emmanuel Adelabu. A combination of Old school house grooves, a live horn section and two voices of pure gospel soul this band creates a new fusion of live jazz. Their performance was outstanding and had the crowd sweating from their pulsating rhythmic feel.

The Newly Shaped house band played some of their new material featuring singer Letisha Clarke. Their more laid-back hip hop approach to jazz creates a more chilled vibe, opening the evening with a great variation of soulful grooves. Heavily influenced by artists such as Buckshot Lefonque, J-Dilla, Jamiroquai, and Jill Scott. And in contrast to D&E gave the evening a perfect balance.

Soul Food Live @ The Crypt

Soul Food is a new Artist-Led organisation who host an Exhibit of cutting-edge Live Music, Artwork, Home-Made Cuisine and Cheap Drinks. We aim to be the Platform for established and up and coming artists, particularly in Jazz, Funk, Soul and Hip Hop.

Our aim is to network, and to help fund the non-commercial music scene and support artists who wouldn't neccesarily be accepted by major record labels.

The Crypt has the perfect atmosphere for both artist and audience, we are all about good vibes and respect for the music.
